Make plans to join WTO+20 commemoration event on Dec. 7

SEATTLE — In November 1999, a cross-border, cross-sector coalition converged on Seattle and derailed the expansion of the World Trade Organization. Twenty years later, the Washington State Labor Council, AFL-CIO is partnering with the Washington Fair Trade Coalition on a commemoration event that will reignite the energy around transforming the global economy in the favor of people, workers, communities, and the planet.

Please mark your calendars and make plans to join the WSLC on Saturday, Dec. 7 at these WTO+20 commemoration events, and encourage others to participate:

10 a.m. — Rally at Occidental Park, 117 S Washington St. in downtown Seattle’s Pioneer Square neighborhood. Hear from WSLC President Larry Brown, AFL-CIO Executive Vice President Tefere Gebre, plus other local and national speakers, and then march to the Federal Building. And just like you did 20 years ago, bring your organizational banners and signs.

3:30 p.m. — Trade Justice Workshops at Town Hall Seattle, 1119 8th Ave., on the cross sections of trade with environment, labor, public health, food sovereignty, Indigenous sovereignty, tech, immigration, militarism, and cross-border activism.

7:30 p.m. — Keynote with Nobel Laureate Joseph Stiglitz, preceded by an Action Orientation with Lori Wallach, at at Town Hall Seattle, 1119 8th Ave.

Tickets for the keynote are limited. Please RSVP for all events through Eventbrite.

Stay tuned for more details on all of these events.
