ELECTION

It’s Primary Election Day in Washington!

Fill out and send in your ballot today (after you check labor’s endorsements, of course)

(Aug. 4, 2020) — All of our lives and routines have been disrupted by the coronavirus pandemic. So it’s understandable that filling out and sending in Primary Election ballots may not have been everyone’s top priority.

But one important thing we’ve learned from this experience is that who we elect to lead our government at the state and local levels can literally be a matter of life and death. For example, given the various states’ widely disparate performances on this public health crisis, who would you trust with the safety of your family and community in Washington state: Governor Jay Inslee, or an office chair thief who throws coronavirus parties?

Washington voters received their Primary Election ballots weeks ago and today is the deadline to vote and decide which two candidates will advance to the general election. So please, VOTE! It’s not too late. Here’s how:

FILL OUT AND RETURN YOUR BALLOT — Find that ballot, fill it out and mail it postage-free… TODAY! Rather than leaving it for pickup in your mailbox, drop it by your local post office or in a public mailbox before pickup time to ensure it gets postmarked today. You can also deposit your ballot in county election drop boxes until 8 p.m. tonight.

CAN’T FIND YOUR BALLOT? — If you are a registered voter and misplaced your ballot, you can still vote today. Some counties allow you to print a provisional ballot online and mail it in, and it will be counted after they confirmed you are registered and haven’t already voted. But in all counties, you can drop by your county auditor’s office to fill out a provisional ballot. Go to your county auditor’s website to find out about your options to participate in today’s election.

CHECK LABOR’S ENDORSEMENTS — And of course, find out which candidates have earned labor’s endorsement as the best choices for working families. Delegates representing unions from across the state have done the research, interviewed the candidates and voted on which candidates deserve the recommendation of the Washington State Labor Council, AFL-CIO. Thank you for doing your civic duty and participating in this important election.
