WA State Labor Council seeks experienced Accounting Manager

SEATTLE (Jan. 6, 2021) — The Washington State Labor Council (WSLC), AFL-CIO is seeking an experienced Accounting Manager. The Accounting Manager will report to the Secretary Treasurer and the President. This position works closely with Accounts Payable/Receivable support staff.

Widely considered to be the “voice of labor” in our state, the WSLC represents and provides services for hundreds of local unions throughout Washington state. Currently, there are more than 600 local unions affiliated with the WSLC, representing approximately 550,000 rank-and-file union members working throughout Washington. The WSLC is the largest labor organization in our state and is the only organization representing all AFL-CIO unions in the state.

Position Requirements:

► Compose, analyze and present quarterly financial statements to the Secretary Treasurer in a timely manner.

► Oversee all financial transactions as they relate to financial statements, including accounting for special projects & recording monthly journal entries.

► Works with grant personnel & grant managers on grant billing & budgeting management.

► Create annual budget, collaborating with management & key staff requirements.

► Oversee & work with external auditors during the annual audit process.

► Compose & submit quarterly & annual tax filings, including 940, 941, FUTA, SUTA, L&I and other compliance filings.

► Maintain banking relationships including monitoring & managing outstanding loans.

► Process payroll on a weekly basis.

► Review cash flow & forecasting to manage timely compliance with all vendor payments, contributions and various commitments.

► Review & improve current financial processes & procedures to improve efficiency overall.

► Familiarity with lease agreements and contracts.

► Share the WSLC’s core mission of building an equitable and inclusive labor movement fighting for worker power.

Qualifications:

► Minimum B.A in accounting or related degree.

► Minimum of 3 years of experience managing financial operations for a small/medium sized organization.

► Technologically proficient, able to advise & implement software improvements.

► Ability to work collaboratively & professionally with management, staff & vendors.

► Proficient with Excel, Word and experience with financial operating systems.

► Experience with CostPoint operating system a plus, but not required.

This position is full-time, salaried, and is subject to irregular work hours — including late nights, weekends, and holidays — based on organizational needs.
