Yard waste, recycle drivers reach tentative deal at Republic

The following is from Teamsters Local 117:

TUKWILA (May 26, 2021) — Teamsters Local 117 has achieved a tentative agreement with Republic Services over a 5-year contract covering its recycle and yard waste drivers. The agreement is fully recommended by members of the union negotiations committee. Drivers from Republic Services depots in Bellevue, Kent, Lynnwood, and Seattle will vote on the proposal in the coming days.

“This proposal is responsive to our issues and comes fully recommended by our union bargaining committee,” said John Scearcy, Secretary-Treasurer of Teamsters 117. “We look forward to meeting with our members soon so they can review and vote on the proposal.”

Republic Services provides residential and commercial recycle and yard waste disposal services to communities throughout the Puget Sound region. Some of the cities Republic serves include Bellevue, Hunts Point, Medina, Kenmore, Lake Forest Park, North Bend, Auburn, Sammamish, Kent, Renton, Covington, Maple Valley, Black Diamond, Lynnwood, Monroe, Edmonds, and commercial recycle disposal in the City of Seattle.

Teamsters Local 117 represents 17,000 working people across Washington State including approximately 300 recycle and yard waste drivers in the solid waste industry, who are employed by Republic Services and Waste Management.
