WSLC offers Naturalization Clinic on June 5

Virtual clinic via Zoom open to legal permanent residents seeking citizenship

YAKIMA — Last year, the Washington State Labor Council, AFL-CIO launched a one-of-a-kind naturalization legal services program to provide legal aid to union members who are legal permanent residents seeking citizenship. Dulce Gutiérrez, the WSLC’s Union, Community & Naturalization Organizer based in the Yakima Valley, is certified to provide these critical legal aid services.

On Saturday, June 5, the WSLC is hosting a Naturalization Clinic for Union Members with limited spots available throughout the day. The clinic is virtual (via Zoom) and is open to union members and immediate family who are legal permanent residents seeking citizenship. To register or if you have questions, email Dulce Gutiérrez or call 509-833-3096.

“I’m proud to be able to offer legal aid and naturalization services here in the Yakima Valley,” Gutiérrez said. “We still need comprehensive immigration reform at the federal level. But until that happens, the WSLC is committed to helping immigrant workers attain citizenship, helping them organize for better pay and working conditions, and making sure they have access to the same protections and assistance that all other workers enjoy.”

This year, the WSLC celebrated the State Legislature’s passage and Gov. Jay Inslee’s signing of multiple bills to protect frontline workers, many of whom are immigrants in the agriculture industry, that will increase worker safety protections, expand support during a public health emergency, and grant overtime pay for all farm workers. The WSLC joined the Washington Immigrant Solidarity Network in successfully pushing for the Washington Immigrant Relief Fund amid the pandemic, and also co-hosted multiple vaccine clinics targeting immigrant workers in the Yakima Valley.

For more information about the Naturalization Clinic, email Dulce Gutiérrez or call 509-833-3096.
