The Southwest Washington Central Labor Council invites all to attend a Race, Gender and Labor Workshop on Thursday, June 3 from 6 to 8 p.m. via Zoom. Participants at this free workshop will explore the manifestations of racism within our workplaces and communities — grounded in the understanding that race and organized labor are inextricably bound. This will be a family friendly space to encourage intergenerational conversations and solutions. Click here to register.

This workshop is presented with SWCLC as part of the Washington State Labor Council’s race and gender justice program. A series of WSLC resolutions on Race & Labor call on unions to develop a robust counter-narrative to right-wing populism, starting with a shared history and collective work of making racial justice central to our organizations and how labor allies can work together. Our working definition: Racism is a system of oppression, designed to divide the working class, so the wealthy elite can consolidate their wealth and power at the very top.

At the end of this workshop, attendees will be able to:

1. Create and participate in “brave space” conversations with other union members, coworkers and family members on race, gender and most importantly — equity
2. Define racism and identify the different manifestations inside and outside of the workplace
3. Explore implicit, unconscious bias and practice interrupting oppressive moments in small groups

Register now for the Race, Gender and Labor Workshop on June 3.
