PNW Labor History Conference will be April 23 in Portland

PORTLAND — The Pacific Northwest Labor History Association’s (PNLHA) will hold its 2022 Conference under the theme “Using Labor’s Past to Mobilize for Labor’s Future” on Saturday, April 23. The morning session will be at First Congregational Church, 1126 SW Park Ave. in Portland, and the afternoon session will be at the nearby Oregon Historical Society, 1200 SW Park Ave. All union members and interested parties are invited to register online and attend.

The conference will feature examples, strategies and opportunities to workshop ideas for using labor history to inspire, organize and mobilize today’s workers. Attendees will be able to tour a labor history exhibit co-sponsored by PNLHA at the Oregon Historical Society, and join a public plenary at the Oregon Historical Society inspired by the exhibit. Morning Workshops:

  • Saving and Preserving Labor History
  • Race and Labor: Pursuing Racial Justice and Building Anti-Racist Unions
  • Passing the Torch: A Local Union Program Preserving Traditions
  • Learning about Class through Literature: A Case Study
  • It Happened Here: Making Labor Visible with Historical Markers and Tours

Afternoon Events:

  • Public Plenary – Building Solidarity for 30 Years, Portland Jobs with Justice
  • Labor History Exhibit at OHS
  • PNLHA Annual General Meeting
