A tapestry of remembrance, celebration at Dia de los Muertos

PASCO, Wash. (Nov. 14, 2023) — Step into a realm where memories intertwine with the essence of eternal celebrations. Such was the atmosphere at the Labor Council for Latin American Advancement Pacific Northwest’s (LCLAA PNW) 2nd annual Dia de los Muertos event. Held at the Teamsters 839 Hall on Saturday, Nov. 12 , the evening was a heartfelt tribute to honor the spirited journey of those who have embarked on a new chapter.

Special gratitude goes to Secretary Treasurer Russell Shjerven for graciously hosting this memorable occasion. The event served as a testament to the unity within the labor community, as individuals came together to craft a poignant ofrenda—a tapestry of remembrance—paying tribute to their cherished departed.

More than a mere gathering, this event was a heartfelt endeavor to unite the labor community with the Latinx comunidad, fostering remembrance and honoring departed loved ones. It also aimed to reconstruct and strengthen connections and heritage, creating a bond that transcends generations.

The evening was filled with harmonious melodies, delectable flavors, and cherished traditions. Attendees adorned themselves in the hues and elegance of catrín and catrina attire, celebrating the vivid tapestry of family and union heritage. It was a jubilant celebration of life and remembrance, a moment to honor loved ones and reflect on the shared journey of the labor community.

Adding a special touch to the evening, Sen. Rebecca Saldaña (D-Seattle) was honored with the Si Se Puede Award. This prestigious recognition celebrates her outstanding service, embodying someone who elevates the needs of our most marginalized and vulnerable populations. Senator Saldaña goes beyond fighting for social justice; she inspires the larger community to believe in the possibility of creating a more diverse, equitable, and just world. Her commitment makes us all say, “si se puede” – yes, we can.

Segundo evento anual del Día de los Muertos de LCLAA PNW: un tapiz de recuerdo y celebración

Ingrese a un reino donde los recuerdos se entrelazan con la esencia de las celebraciones eternas: tal fue la atmósfera en el segundo evento anual del Día de los Muertos del Consejo Laboral para el Avance de Latino Américanos del Noroeste del Pacífico (LCLAA PNW). Celebrada en el Teamsters 839 Hall el sábado 12 de noviembre, de 5:30 a 7:30 p. m., la velada fue un sentido homenaje para honrar el viaje enérgico de aquellos que se han embarcado en un nuevo capítulo.

Un agradecimiento especial al Secretario Tesorero Russell Shjerven por ser el anfitrión amable de esta memorable ocasión. El evento sirvió como testimonio de la unidad dentro de la comunidad laboral, las personas se reunieron para elaborar una conmovedora ofrenda (un tapiz de recuerdo) en homenaje a sus queridos difuntos.

Más que una simple reunión, este evento fue un esfuerzo sincero para unir a la comunidad laboral con la comunidad latina, fomentando el recuerdo y honrando a los seres queridos fallecidos. También para  reconstruir y fortalecer las conexiones y el patrimonio cultural, creando un vínculo que trasciende generaciones.

La velada estuvo llena de melodías armoniosas, sabores deliciosos y tradiciones preciadas. Los asistentes se adornaron con los tonos y la elegancia del atuendo de catrín y catrina, celebrando el vívido tapiz de la herencia familiar y laboral. Fue una celebración jubilosa de la vida y el recuerdo, un momento para honrar a los seres queridos y reflexionar sobre el camino compartido de la comunidad laboral.

Para darle un toque especial a la velada, la Senadora Rebecca Saldaña fue honrada con el Premio Si Se Puede. Este prestigioso reconocimiento celebra su destacado servicio, encarnando a alguien que eleva las necesidades de nuestras poblaciones más marginadas y vulnerables. La senadora del estado de Washington Saldaña va más allá de luchar por la justicia social; ella inspira a la comunidad en general a creer en la posibilidad de crear un mundo más diverso, equitativo y justo. Su compromiso nos hace decir a todos “si se puede” – sí, podemos.
