AFL-CIO Organizing Institute, WSLC to offer training in Seattle

Training set for Feb. 28-Mar. 1, 2024. Registration opens Dec. 11.

SEATTLE — The AFL-CIO Organizing Institute (OI) is partnering with the Washington State Labor Council, AFL-CIO to offer a three-day training in Seattle on Feb. 28-Mar. 1, 2024, for organizers to learn the skills they need to win and to move the labor movement forward.

The OI training is open to all national and local unions affiliated with the AFL-CIO. Staff organizers and activist members are encouraged to attend this training to gain valuable tools for your unions’ current and future organizing campaigns.

TAKE A STAND — The OI training will be in-person in Seattle. The location and recommended hotels will be provided immediately after participants have been confirmed. Registration will be open starting on Monday, Dec. 11. Participation is limited and organizers expect to reach capacity quickly, so starting at 9 a.m. on Dec. 11, click here to apply! ** UPDATE: All of the slots for this event were filled on the first day of registration! Thank you for your interest and participation! ** The training fee and materials are $250 per participant. Sponsoring unions are responsible for all travel and lodging expenses. Participants must be approved by their local union elected officer or a direct supervisor.

At the Seattle OI training, participants will learn:

  • Day 1 — How to Have the Right 1-on-1 Organizing Conversation
  • Day 2 — Recruiting and Developing Key Workplace Leaders
  • Day 3 — How to Run Issue Campaigns to Build Momentum

Note that union staffers and members applying to participate cannot sponsor themselves, they must be approved by their local union officer or direct supervisor. Once participants are registered and approved, they will receive a participant packet prior to the training.

AFL-CIO OI COVID-19 POLICY: We will adhere to the CDC guidelines and to state and local protocol in Seattle. The wearing of masks will be optional at the training.
