WSLC’s 2024 Convention will be July 16-18 in Wenatchee

WENATCHEE (June 13, 2024) — Hundreds of delegates representing unions from across the state will gather in Wenatchee on July 16 – 18 for the 2024 Constitutional Convention of the Washington State Labor Council, AFL-CIO. The state’s largest union organization, representing some 600 unions and more than half a million members, will hold its annual convention at the Wenatchee Convention Center.

At the convention, delegates will hear from workers, advocates, and labor leaders — including newly-elected SEIU International President April Verrett. Delegates will also participate in panels and educational workshops focused around the 2024 theme of “Reclaiming Worker Power, Energizing Our Movement.”

Affiliates are encouraged to register their delegates by June 17 (registration details below).

Convention delegates will consider the resolutions that are a key part of convention business, and which provide guidance for the WSLC’s work. It is through the debate and passage of these resolutions that WSLC positions, policies and priorities are established.

WSLC President April Sims speaks at the 2023 WSLC Convention in SeaTac.

“2024 is a watershed year for working people,” said WSLC President April Sims. “Convention is a powerful demonstration of our movement’s impact and commitment to building power for working people. We’re ready to gather and learn from one another, unite around our shared goals, and recharge our people power battery for the work ahead.”

REGISTRATION — WSLC affiliates were mailed the official Convention Call in April. Those letters indicated the number of delegates and alternates each union can have, plus other important details. Union members who are interested in representing their organization at the convention should contact their local union for information about how to serve as a delegate or alternate.

Online registration is still available for delegates who are properly credentialed by their local unions. If you have registration questions, please email Rashea Dickey (rdickey@wslc.org).

AWARDS — Each year at convention, the WSLC presents awards recognizing the efforts and accomplishments of specific union organizations and individual union members. Affiliated unions are encouraged to submit names for consideration. If you would like to send in a nomination for this year’s awards, please submit your nomination form online or email your completed form to Willa Kamakahi at wkamakahi@wslc.org by June 20. More information on the awards can be found in this May 9 announcement on The STAND.

IN MEMORIAM — During Constitutional Conventions, we take time to recognize and commemorate those we have lost the past two years during a fallen workers memorial. Names can be submitted online. Please submit the name, union, and local of fallen workers by 5pm on Monday July 15.
