ELECTION
Be heard; vote by August 6
Primary election a chance for working people to have a say
SEATTLE, WA (July 31, 2024) – Washington’s primary election day is Tuesday, August 6, right around the corner. Workers’ voices are essential for determining the outcome of federal, state-wide, and local races. Elections are an opportunity to select candidates who will fight for working people and support policies to grow family-wage jobs, protect collective bargaining rights, expand and protect healthcare access, and build a union-made green energy economy.
Elections are one of the tools organized labor can use to build working power; we elect the conditions we organize under. That’s why union members have been interviewing candidates and reviewing candidate questionnaires to determine who will best fight for working people. Here are some of the priority endorsements made by hundreds of union delegates representing the more than 600 affiliated unions of the WSLC:
US SENATE: Maria Cantwell
US CONGRESS, 3rd CD: Marie Glusenkamp Perez
US CONGRESS, 5th CD: Carmela Conroy & Jacquelin Maycumber
US CONGRESS, 6th CD: Emily Randall
GOVERNOR: Bob Ferguson
ATTORNEY GENERAL: Nick Brown & Manka Dhingra
COMMISSIONER OF PUBLIC LANDS: Patrick DePoe & Kevin Van De Wege
SUPERINTENDENT OF PUBLIC INSTRUCTION: Chris Reykdal
Check out the full list of WSLC endorsed candidates.
Union members are also taking part in the WSLC’s Labor Neighbor program, knocking on doors and making calls to encourage other union members to vote. There are still a couple more opportunities to plug into this work between now and the primary.
