Info picket at Valley Medical Center

Healthcare workers at Valley Medical Center will hold an Informational Picket on Wednesday to demand a fair contract, adequate sick leave, and safe staffing

RENTON, WA (September 10, 2024) – Healthcare workers at Valley Medical Center, including service workers, registered nurses, pharmacists, case management social workers, licensed practical nurses, and other job classes, will hold an informational picket on Wednesday to highlight the urgent need for a contract.

The workers, united in SEIU Healthcare 1199NW, are calling for wages that reflect the cost of living, appropriate sick leave, benefits protections, and safe staffing levels. They’re motivated in their demands to ensure quality patient care.

In a Facebook post, the union shared that “after many months of bargaining, UW Medicine is not bringing strong proposals that live up to our values for quality care. We’re taking action for a contract with livable wages, strong benefits, and fair sick leave that matches other UW hospitals.”

The union — which represents more than 35,000 caregivers in Washington and Montana — represents more than 2,400 healthcare workers across job classes at Valley Medical Center.

TAKE A STAND — Join SEIU Healthcare 1199NW on Wednesday, September 11 at Valley Medical Center (Corner of Talbot Rd. S and S Carr Rd., Renton).  Picket will run from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., with a rally with guest speakers at 1 p.m.
