Striking hotel workers: “Treat immigrants with respect”
Workers on strike at Embassy Suites Pioneer Square are shining light on how hotel owner Greg Steinhauer has profited from immigrants’ labor and the immigration system
The following is from UNITE HERE Local 8:
SEATTLE, WA (July 13, 2026) — Hilton, the hotel management company that runs hotel operations at the Embassy Suites Downtown Seattle Pioneer Square on behalf of its owner Greg Steinhauer, continues to reject basic protections for immigrant workers, such as notification when ICE agents are present at the hotel and the right to stay home during an immigration enforcement surge such as in Minneapolis.
As the strike enters its fourth week, immigrant rights advocates held a press conference raising concerns about Mr. Steinhauer’s track record of making money off immigrants and the immigration system.

Refusing to Protect Immigrants
Mr. Steinhauer owns the Embassy Suites Seattle Pioneer Square, which is managed by Hilton. Workers are on strike during the FIFA World Cup for better wages, health care and basic protection from ICE.
Profiting from Immigration Enforcement
Mr. Steinhauer is the founder of Rapid Drone, a company offering “drone services” for “Border and Perimeter Security, Defense & Federal Support.”
Legal Settlement with Immigrant Investors
Mr. Steinhauer, a real estate developer, used the federal EB-5 visa program to finance a construction project. Through the EB-5 program, foreign investors can qualify for a green card if they invest money in the United States. Mr. Steinhauer and his business partners settled a class action lawsuit brought against them by immigrant investors in a Seattle office project for over $20 million. According to the Puget Sound Business Journal, the settlement came after “King County Superior Court Judge Regina Cahan ruled American Life [Steinhauer’s former company] orchestrated the merger to provide the limited partners an amount below the fair value of their interests.” So far as we know, Mr. Steinhauer has not admitted that he was at fault.
Striking Embassy Suites Workers are asking that you don’t eat, sleep or meet at the hotel until they have a fair contract.
