Tacoma cannabis workers fight for a fair contract

“Every dollar The Herbal Garden spends fighting its own employees is a dollar they could have invested in better wages,” says UFCW Local 367 president Michael Hines

TACOMA, WA (July 1, 2026) — Workers at The Herbal Garden cannabis dispensary in Tacoma are months into contract negotiations with little movement, fed up with stonewalling from management. Workers are fighting for a strong contract that secures living wages and predictable scheduling. But UFCW Local 367 reports that the employer has failed to make a serious proposal on a single economic issue. The most recent bargaining session was June 26.

“While our bargaining team made progress on grievance procedure language, negotiations continue to move far too slowly,” the union shared. “Rather than investing in the workers who make The Herbal Garden successful, the employer continues to delay meaningful progress toward reaching a first contract.”

In the words of bargaining team member Elizabeth: “Rejecting everything without a counter isn’t bargaining in good faith. It’s a brick wall.”

Even as management stalls at the table, workers are keeping their feet on the gas. They’re holding a community rally this Friday, July 3, outside the dispensary, inviting labor family and supporters to join them and show management that the community stands with them as they keep up the fight for a fair contract.

Workers have also put together a community pledge, asking supporters to sign their name in support of their fight for a fair contract.

“Every dollar THG spends fighting its own employees is a dollar they could have invested in better wages, safer working conditions, and real benefits,” said UFCW Local 367 president Michael Hines. “Cannabis workers in Tacoma deserve respect for the care and attention they put into their craft, not union-busting tactics from an out-of-town attorney.”

TAKE A STAND: Join THG workers this Friday, July 3, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at The Herbal Garden dispensary (4803 Center St., Tacoma, WA 98409) and sign the community pledge
