Working people are taking to the streets April 5 in defiance of the federal administration’s attacks on working people, essential services, and basic rights

WASHINGTON, D.C. (April 1, 2025) — A national day of action on Saturday, April 5 will bring thousands into the streets nationwide, as community and labor groups come together with one voice to tell the federal administration to keep their hands off our services, our rights, and our fellow working people.

Rallies are organized by volunteers and community groups, with the national AFL-CIO in support. The day of action calls attention to the anti-worker actions of the current administration; gutting funding for essential services and research, cutting jobs, attacking the right to organize, rolling back protections for clean air and water, denying due process to immigrants, ramping up immigration raids, and threatening the civil rights of us all. Whether in union or not yet organized, these attacks threaten the wellbeing of all working people. By coming together, communities across the U.S. are sending a clear message to anti-worker politicians and unelected billionaires: hands off.

Along with a headline rally in Washington D.C., local groups have planned rallies in all 50 states. There are currently more than 45 events planned in Washington state alone, with rallies from the Peninsula to the Idaho border. (For northern Oregon readers, there’s about a dozen more just along the Columbia River.) Top Washington locations include: Spokane, Yakima, Wenatchee, Vancouver, Olympia, Shoreline, Everett, Bellingham, and Seattle. But smaller rallies are called, too, in the San Juans, Federal Way, Ocean Shores, Deming, Omak, Pullman, and many, many more. Start times vary, and details on all actions can be found on the Hands Off mobilize page.

You can find a full list of actions — and RSVP for one near you — here.

Washington State Labor Council, AFL-CIO President April Sims will be speaking at Saturday’s event at the Seattle Center, which starts at noon. Other labor leaders are participating in local actions as well, including Charlotte Murry, Secretary-Treasurer of the Snohomish and Island County Labor Council, AFL-CIO, who will be speaking at the Snohomish County rally in Everett. (Are you a labor leader speaking at your local event? Let us know!)

“Working people are coming together on Saturday, standing up to the feds’ attacks on our communities,” said WSLC President April Sims. “From defunding essential services, firing federal workers, targeting immigrant workers and activists for detention and deportation, threatening social security, or this latest move attacking collective bargaining rights, the federal administration clearly thinks there are no guardrails on their chaos. They’re wrong. Working people will hold them accountable.”
