SW Washington ‘Workers over Billionaires’ Labor Day Rally
Hosted by the Clark College Association for Higher Education, featuring speakers like the striking Evergreen PSE chapter’s president
VANCOUVER, WA (August 28, 2025) — Labor family in Southwest Washington are hosting a solidarity rally on Labor Day, in support of education workers on strike in the Evergreen School District and to celebrate a year of workers’ wins in the region. The rally is hosted by the Clark College Association for Higher Education in partnership with the Evergreen Education Association and other local labor groups.
Speakers include State Representative Monica Stonier, State Senator Adrian Cortes, and Mindy Troffer-Cooper, president of the Evergreen chapter of the Public School Employees of Washington. Evergreen classified staff represented by PSE have been on strike since Tuesday, fighting for a fair contract with Evergreen Public Schools. It is their first strike in the union’s 57-year history. These workers provide essential support services for students — bus drivers, paraeducators, and more — yet many education workers are forced to take on second jobs to make ends meet.
The Evergreen Education Association and other union-represented workers in the district have refused to cross the PSE picket line, using worker power to compel the district to delay the start of school and continue negotiating.
Come hear about the contract fight at Evergreen Public Schools and other local labor actions at the Vancouver Labor Day Workers over Billionaires rally on September 1, from 11:00 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Leroy Haagan Memorial Park (NE 9th St, Vancouver, WA 98684). RSVP on Facebook or Mobilize.
