WSARA to host town hall on online scams
Speakers will focus on AI’s role in online scams, Medicare fraud protection, and the ARA ‘Stop the Scam’ campaign
SEATTLE, WA (May 26, 2026) — With online scams on the rise, the Washington State Association of Retired Americans is hosting a town hall featuring WA State Insurance Commissioner Patty Kuderer, Secretary Treasurer of the Washington State Labor Council, AFL-CIO Cherika Carter, and other experts sharing how retirees and working people can protect themselves from scams that steal billions from Washingtonians every year.

The town hall will be held Thursday, May 28, at 10:00 a.m. at the Machinists District 751 Union Hall (9125 15th Pl S, Seattle, WA 98108).

Last year Washingtonians lost $2.6 billion to online scams. These scams are powered by artificial intelligence, and older adults are targeted the most. The amount being lost to scammers is staggering – but behind each statistic is a real person whose savings and retirement security are being stolen.
This event will bring together policymakers, retirees, advocates, and workers, for a conversation about the true costs of online scams and how to fight back.
The town hall is free and open to the public and refreshments will be provided.
