APWU fights post office closures

Hear from American Postal Workers Union members across the country fighting to prevent post office closures and preserve a public postal service

WASHINGTON, D.C. (June 9, 2026) — The U.S. Postal Service is an institution that predates the country itself, one of the most important public services for communities across the U.S. USPS workers carry letters, important documents, medication, and ballots to neighborhoods in every corner of the country, a national delivery network without parallel.

But the USPS has also been targeted for privatization despite overwhelming opposition from the public. Unions representing postal workers and letter carriers have been fighting back against any attempts to gut the USPS and sell it off. Today at 4:00 p.m. PT, join the American Postal Workers Union’s monthly livestream to hear about some of those efforts and learn how labor and community allies can join the fight to prevent post office closures and preserve USPS.

From APWU:

The post office is more than a building — it’s a lifeline. It’s where small businesses send their shipments, where rural communities receive their medicine, and where every American, regardless of zip code, is guaranteed the same reliable service. That promise is now under threat.

APWU Vice President Debby Szeredy is hosting the June APWU livestream to tell you about our campaign to fight back against post office closures. Hear from APWU members around the country who are involved in the fight and can tell you how they have been successful.

The strength of this fight lies in the coalition between workers and the communities we serve. Together, we protect what every postal customer deserves — a vibrant, accessible, and enduring public Postal Service. Not just for us, but for every generation to come. Join us! You don’t want to miss this one!
