ELECTION

Super Walks in Everett, Olympia, Vancouver this Saturday

Labor’s endorsed candidate for Attorney General, Bob Ferguson, thanks volunteers at the IAM Hall in Auburn before the Sept. 15 Super Walk.

(Sept. 19) — Hundreds of union members and activists responded to the call for volunteers at the Washington State Labor Council’s first Labor Neighbor Super Walks held last Saturday in Auburn, Tacoma and Spokane. They got to meet some of labor’s endorsed candidates, have some fun visiting other union members and talking about this fall’s election, and reconvene with fellow volunteers for a post-walk barbecue.

And this Saturday, we’ll do it all over again in Everett, Olympia and Vancouver. Plus, we’ll continue to conduct weeknight phone banks across the state. So please join us!

VOLUNTEER! See the full Labor Neighbor calendar for a list of all of the weekday phone bank opportunities and Super Walks in your area. Also, volunteers can call from anywhere. If you have a computer and phone available at your office/home, you can participate in phone banking remotely via a virtual predictive dialing system. “Our first series of Super Walks allowed us to knock on over 2700 doors last Saturday, in addition to the thousands of phone calls we are making every week to union households,” said WSLC Field Mobilization Director Lori Province. “But we can’t pat ourselves on the back after one weekend — we have thousands more members to talk to.”

The plan for the general election is to conduct fewer, but more intense “Super Walks” in targeted districts — and then have a BBQ. These Super Walks will be held every Saturday through Oct. 20. Every volunteer shift is from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. with snacks/training/pair up at 9:30 a.m., first knock at 10:30 a.m., last knock at 2:30 p.m., and debrief and a BBQ at 3 p.m.

The dates and locations for the walks this Saturday, Sept. 22 are:

EVERETT — Labor Temple — 2810 Lombard

OLYMPIA — WSLC/WFSE — 906 S. Columbia

VANCOUVER — IAFF 452 — 2807 NW Fruit Valley Rd.

Labor Neighbor is the Washington State Labor Council’s grassroots union member-to-member political education program. Its volunteers made nearly 130,000 phone calls and knocked on more than 5,000 doors in the primary season. These volunteers explained to fellow union members which candidates support strong working families, a secure middle class, and a better future for our children.

With just seven weeks until this year’s critically important election, volunteers are needed to sign up for Labor Neighbor shifts!
