‘Rock Against the TPP’ teach-in explains dangers of trade pact
SEATTLE (Aug. 22, 2016) — On Friday at the ShowBox, musicians and activists gathered to use the power of music to oppose the Trans-Pacific Partnership trade deal. Digital activist group Fight For The Future organized Rock Against the TPP, which brought its free national tour to Seattle to raise awareness about the massive 12-nation trade deal.
But before the musical lineup of hip-hop artist Talib Kweli, Pittsburgh punk rock band Anti-Flag, Downtown Boys, Evan Greer, and Taina Asili took the stage, actress Evangeline Lilly moderated a “teach-in” to explain what the TPP is and why it is opposed by environmental, labor and consumer rights advocates.
Here is a video of Friday’s teach-in. (Teresa Mosqueda, Political and Strategic Campaign Director for the Washington State Labor Council, AFL-CIO, speaks at about 8:00.)
