Women’s Committee offers scholarships for SIUW-Hawaii

(April 17, 2017) — Every year, the Washington State Labor Council’s Women’s Committee sponsors scholarships to the annual Summer Institute for Union Women. The 2017 SIUW is being held in Honolulu, Hawaii, and the Women’s Committee is offering up to four scholarships to any union women who would like to attend.

The SIUW celebrates the solidarity of union women and crosses the boundaries of age, race, occupation and nation. All union women are invited to participate, whether their union is independent, affiliated with the AFL-CIO or affiliates with some other labor organization.

The theme this year is “Continuing the Legacy: Responding with Direction, Unity and Strength.” Union women everywhere have a proud history of resistance, resilience, and focus in formulating and organizing a unified response to threats on workers’ and women’s rights. This institute will focus on providing union women with opportunities to network and share their expertise, while also providing content and practical strategies useful for informed responses to today’s challenges. For more information, click here or visit the Facebook event page.

If any of your union members are interested in attending, please have them fill out this application (PDFWord) and return it to the WSLC’s Seattle office — WSLC, 321 16th Ave. South, Seattle, WA, 98144 — by no later than May 10, 2017.

If you have any questions, please email April Sims or call her at 253-441-5113.
