Celebrate Labor Day safely, join campaign to pass the PRO Act

(Sept. 3, 2021) — Welcome to Labor Day weekend, a time to celebrate the achievements of unions and working people! Unfortunately, as the COVID-19 pandemic rages on, many of the Labor Day picnics and events traditionally hosted by unions and Central Labor Councils across the state are not being held in the interest of public safety.

The Washington State Labor Council, AFL-CIO will join MLK Labor and other CLCs in participating in a social media campaign to celebrate Labor Day by urging Congress to pass the PRO Act. So make sure you follow the WSLC (Facebook, Twitter and Instagram) and MLK Labor (Facebook, Twitter and Instagram) to take action by sharing these messages.

The Southwest Washington Central Labor Council is planning to show off that region’s Union Pride through the Council’s social media channels. The CLC is urging area union members to snap a selfie now that celebrates your union membership. Wear your union gear, show us your union card, take a shot at your job site or with your family… show what it means to be a union member Then, send your photos to info@swwaclc.org, and be sure to include your name, union and local, social media handles (so they can tag you), and anything you’d like to say about what union membership has meant to you and your family. On Labor Day, the will post the photos on its Facebook, Twitter and Instagram pages with the hashtag #SWWAUnionPride.

Some Labor Day activities are still going on as planned — with participants are urged to mask up, stay socially distanced and be safe. They include:
