Tell Hilton: Hotel rooms should be cleaned every day

The following is from UNITE HERE:

NEW YORK CITY (Sept. 15, 2021) — Don’t you deserve to have your hotel room cleaned every day? That’s what hotel guests have come to expect and love. But as tourism comes roaring back, Hilton wants to end this standard and eliminate housekeepers’ jobs.

UNITE HERE’s research shows that ending daily housekeeping would slash jobs and make housekeepers’ workloads even more painful, because rooms are much dirtier after days without cleaning. The union estimates that ending this practice would eliminate up to 39 percent of all U.S. hotel housekeeping jobs and cost housekeepers — overwhelmingly women of color — $4.8 billion in annual lost wages. (Read UNITE HERE’s “Playing Dirty” report to learn more.)

Guests and health experts prefer increased cleaning, but Hilton has recently announced it will no longer offer daily housekeeping unless guests specifically request the service — taking advantage of the pandemic disruption to cut guest services and the workers who make them possible.

But it’s not inevitable. Hotel guests and housekeepers worldwide are joining forces and taking action, telling Hilton that hotel rooms should be cleaned every day. We have a vision for a recovery where nobody gets left behind — and together we can win a recovery where everyone comes back stronger.

TAKE A STAND — Join housekeepers’ fight to Come Back Stronger:

●  Sign our petition telling Hilton that hotel rooms should be cleaned every day.

●  Insist on daily housekeeping throughout your hotel stay. If you’re an individual, visit or call the front desk and ask that your room be cleaned every day of your stay. If you’re booking for an organization, include automatic daily housekeeping in your contract. You can find model contract language here.

Thank you for taking action to support hotel housekeepers.
