‘Just practicing’ picket at Canteen Vending CANCELLED

UPDATE (April 29, 2022) — Teamsters Local 117 has CANCELLED the “just practicing” picket planned for Friday outside Canteen Vending in Tacoma after the employer agreed to the union’s demands.

TACOMA (April 26, 2022) — Teamsters Local 117 members at Canteen Vending house and deliver snacks and meals for workers around Western Washington, including workers at Boeing, Fred Meyer, Amazon and Costco. But they have been struggling to negotiate a fair contract with their employer after almost nine months of bargaining, and have been working without a contract since September 2021.

The union is frustrated and reports that the company has engaged in bad-faith bargaining and direct dealing with its members over wages. So they are increasing pressure on Canteen Vending to do the right thing and agree to a fair contract for their hard-working employees.

TAKE A STAND — Union members and community supporters are invited to participate in a “just practicing” picket this Friday, April 29 from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. outside Canteen Vending, 1311 S. Tacoma Way in Tacoma. This is a “just practicing” picket — not a strike. Wear your union colors and come out to show solidarity with these workers.

With inflation on the rise and Canteen Vending employees’ wages low compared to industry standards, the company’s economic proposals have been insulting. The company has even advertised temporary positions in the warehouse at a higher wage rate than their unionized employees.

Come show your labor solidarity on Friday!
