Standing up for truth and freedom
“Washington’s union families are in solidarity with the Minnesota labor movement and every Minnesotan standing up for truth and freedom today”
MINNEAPOLIS, MN (January 23, 2026) — Federal immigration agents have been terrorizing the Minneapolis area, harassing and detaining people of color, dragging people from their homes, disappearing people off the street, staking out and raiding job sites, and using children as bait. They are brutalizing and killing people, both those exercising their right to observe law enforcement and those held in custody. At every step, Minnesotans have stepped-up to defend their families and their neighbors. And today, Minnesotans are leading a mass action — Day of Truth and Freedom — to protest the federal government’s indefensible campaign of dehumanization and horror now centered out their state.
The violence of the federal government’s anti-immigrant and anti-worker campaign has rightly received media attention nationwide. One of the most vital responsibilities of a free press is to document abuses of state power. But in the backdrop of every horrifying story is a constant: Minnesotans are refusing to stand by as their communities are targeted. Today’s Day of Truth and Freedom actions, supported by the Minnesota AFL-CIO and more than a dozen local labor unions, are born out of that fierce resistance.
Today’s actions are in support of these demands, articulated by organizers: ICE must leave Minnesota now, the officer who killed Renee Good must be held legally accountable, no additional federal funding for ICE in the upcoming Congressional budget, investigate ICE for human and Constitutional violations of Americans and our neighbors; and a call for Minnesota and national companies to become 4th Amendment businesses, cease economic relations with ICE and refuse ICE entry or using their property for staging grounds.

Working people across the U.S are backing up Minnesotans in this action. Solidarity rallies and marches are planned in dozens of cities outside Minnesota and across the country, organized labor is lending it’s voice in support of today’s action and ongoing resistance to state violence.
“Washington’s union families are in solidarity with the Minnesota labor movement and every Minnesotan standing up for truth and freedom today,” said Washington State Labor Council, AFL-CIO president April Sims. “There is nothing more righteous or necessary than fighting for justice. The Trump administration’s campaign of terror against immigrants and working people must end. Washington’s labor movement echoes the call: ICE out of Minnesota, not one cent more in federal funding for ICE, end the corporate partnerships propping up this unaccountable agency, and justice for Renee Good.”
Other state affiliates of the AFL-CIO have voiced their support from Florida to California, as have international unions like the Machinists, SEIU and the UAW.
