Tell Starbucks: Reinstate fired workers, stop union busting!

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (Feb. 14, 2022) — Starbucks is giving the world a classic example of why America’s working people are demanding that the rules be rewritten so workers who want a union can have one. On Feb. 8, almost the entire union organizing committee that formed at the Memphis, Tenn., Starbucks / Poplar & Highland store was fired with flimsy excuses — a clear attack on their right to form a union.

TAKE A STAND Send Starbucks a message telling the company to reinstate those Memphis workers and stop union-busting! Starbucks workers nationwide are joining the #UnionsForAll movement.

The Memphis Starbucks workers are part of national movement of the coffee chain’s employees who want a union so they can negotiate better working conditions. Nearly 80 stores in at least 20 states, including Starbucks stores in Everett and Seattle, have now filed for union elections since Starbucks workers at two Buffalo, N.Y., won a union. That’s more than 1,300 workers at Starbucks who want the opportunity to join together and negotiate for respect on the job.

Just a few weeks before the Memphis Starbucks workers were fired — on Jan. 17, Martin Luther King Jr. Day — the organizing committee spoke with news outlets about their plans to join together in union.

“Starbucks is trying to silence us, but just let it be known, we will not be silenced,” said Nikki Taylor, Starbucks Shift Supervisor in Memphis who is a member of the union organizing committee.
