Meet Sarah Kohout, WSLC’s Legislative Intern for 2016

OLYMPIA (Jan. 25, 2016) — Meet Sarah Kohout, the Washington State Labor Council’s Legislative Intern for the 2016 session. She graduated from Western Washington University in June 2015 with a bachelor’s degree in Political Science and since the session began on Jan. 11, Sarah has been an invaluable part of the WSLC’s legislative lobbying efforts in Olympia.

At Western, Sarah served in a student government leadership position where she lobbied for student issues at the local, state, and federal level. She is extremely passionate about youth engagement, gender equity, and protecting workers with marginalized identities. During her internship at the WSLC, Sarah hopes to strengthen her understanding of the labor movement and tactics used to accomplish legislative victories.

“It’s only been a couple weeks but I’ve already learned so much about the legislature and the United Labor Lobby/Shared Prosperity Coalition,” Kohout said. “I’m really looking forward to the rest of the adventures that session brings in the next six weeks!”

“Sarah has provided diligent support to the Labor Council lobby team, and whole labor policy community,” said Joe Kendo, WSLC Government Affairs Director. “She has drawn on her experience as a legislative advocate for students to seamlessly integrate in to the intense work environment that the legislative session creates. We are very lucky to have to her this session, and look forward to seeing her continue to lead beyond her experience at the WSLC.”
