The Stand, WSLC win labor media honors

best-in-show-the-stand-2(Oct. 10, 2014) — The International Labor Communications Association announced Thursday that The Stand swept the 2014 ILCA Awards in its category for union websites, winning First Place awards for Best Content, Best Design and General Excellence. The ILCA is the professional organization for union communicators in North America with several hundred member organizations with a total circulation in the tens of millions.

“On behalf of the entire staff here, I want to thank the ILCA for this recognition of our work,” said David Groves, Editor of The Stand, a service of the Washington State Labor Council, AFL-CIO. “But it’s been no bed of roses, no pleasure cruise. We considered it a challenge before the whole human race, and we weren’t gonna lose.”

The WSLC also won First Place for two videos produced by Communications Director Kathy Cummings: in the Education/Training category for “Weingarten Rights: Training for Shop Stewards,” which was produced with OPEIU Local 8, and “The Underground Economy and Wage Theft” for best Long Video.
